Red Deer hospital expansion still in first stage

The first stage of preparations for Red Deer hospital’s $100-million expansion project should be complete this fall.

A statement from Alberta Health said the business case for the project is expected to be completed this fall and includes a complete review of all components of the hospital and how best to redevelop the facility.

The CDC says one of the biggest risks for getting an antibiotic-resistant infection is staying in a healthcare facility. Since healthcare facilities are often interconnected, patients can spread multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) around various areas.

Most Hospitals Lack Adequate Cybersecurity: Report

Cybersecurity seems to still be an issue for many healthcare systems across the country if the results of a new report are any indication.

A new CynergisTek report found that most hospitals critically lack the ability to secure their supply chain systems, according to Health IT Security. CynergisTek examined about 100 different healthcare providers, including hospitals, physician practices, and accountable care organizations. The examination measured an organization’s security strength against the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Cybersecurity Framework.
