CAM News & Updates
President's Message

CAM 1.png

I’ve recently had several conversations with the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (GCS) about how to get good moving advice out to the public. It certainly is something that CAM can relate to as we have similar challenges. We’ve talked at length about the types of current consumer complaints that come into CAM and if GCS and Consumer Protection Ontario can incorporate some of this information into a new series of consumer protection items on their Hiring a Mover website.

CAM originally met with Ontario’s Director of the Consumer Protection Branch and staff in 2005, and again in 2008, to help movers better understand the new regulations of the Consumer Protection Act and to discuss issues we were having within our sector. Then nothing. Perhaps it’s time to get back round the table as more and more bad actors are operating in our largest market and are continually causing us grief, and a lot of wasted time, as we deal with call after call about rogue businesses. I’ve reached out.

CAM, coincidently, will also be going through a bit of a website makeover. Our goal is to make the consumer section more organized, more informative and more easily linked to CAM members as we are strictly constrained by an outdated website format at present. I feel another collaboration coming on!

This will not be a normal golf tourney...

cameng2a_aug72019.jpgRegistration deadline: September 5

It wouldn’t be Friday the 13th without a little Jason, black cats, open umbrellas, and a few good luck charms too.

There’s only three weeks left until the golf tournament.  Building on the fun and success of last year’s tournament, we are, once again, going above and beyond just a regular round of golf.

With the date being Friday the 13th, how can we not throw in some superstitions, lucky charms and hockey masks? Tee-off time is 11 am, so you’ll be able to get home at a reasonable time. Lunch, dinner and draw prizes are all included. If you need clubs, let us know!

So come out and find your inner Jason on the 13th hole at Royal Niagara Golf Course on Friday, September 13th. You can register yourself, you and a partner, three or a foursome. Register here to ensure you make the cut!

Also - if you’re planning to stay in a hotel, the Niagara Region is in peak tourist season and regional accommodations are expensive. Why not book at the renovated Motel 6 in Niagara Falls (about an 11-minute drive from the golf course) and enjoy your CAM discount and free shuttle to and from golf? Here’s the Motel 6 link. FMCSA started this process in 2018 by asking for public comments on ways to alleviate unnecessary burdens placed on drivers while maintaining highway safety. AMSA submitted public comments that requested several improvements to HOS rules that would benefit our industry.
