CAM News & Updates
President's Message

For the past six weeks or so, everyone has been hunkering down and taking care of business. Here in the office, we have been too. April 2020 has been circled as a “to do” month since late summer last year.

Our website, which was built over twenty years ago, is tired and not very user-friendly, as any of you taking the Canadian Professional Mover course can attest to it. We have very outdated mechanisms to post essential information, and many of our products – such as the videos – rely on Flash which will disappear at the end of this year.

The Board of Directors approved an extensive overhaul of our website and testing mechanisms and we have been working very hard for the past six months on organizing and upgrading our content. When it unveils early in May, you will see a modern, user-friendly website with a slick design. What you won’t see is the incredibly valuable operability that Marian and I are going to have. That means that we will be able to expand our website to include more content! This is great news for the French side of our website, which admittedly, gets overlooked.

There’s no question that our website usage is up over the past two years. Integrated with our social media launch in October 2017, as well as our cross-promotional awareness campaign with the BBB – May is Moving Month – it comes as no surprise that we have more than doubled our users and have over 125,000 new visitors to With the third year of May is Moving Month about to kick off in the same month as we launch the website, we know those numbers will continue to rise. All of this is for your benefit – more consumers driven to our website will mean more mover searches, referrals, and bookings with CAM members.

As always, we encourage you and your staff to support CAM, by liking and following CAM on social media. Your potential customers are doing just that – as they are pointed to to find #TrustedAndReliableMovers. The links to our platforms are at the bottom of this newsletter.

Update - Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS)

As a Canadian employer whose business has been affected by COVID-19, you may be eligible for a subsidy of 75% of employee wages for up to 12 weeks, retroactive from March 15, 2020, to June 6, 2020. This wage subsidy will enable you to re-hire workers previously laid off as a result of COVID-19, help prevent further job losses, and better position you to resume normal operations following the crisis.

The government announced that the wage subsidy calculator is now available online. Employers can calculate the amount of subsidy that they can expect to claim. There will be a maximum of $847 per week for qualifying small companies to keep their employees on the payroll.

We are very proud of our new website We’ve modernized it and made it more customer-focused.

  • Consumers will no longer get lost navigating around.
  • The CAM Member Log-In section will not only be easy to find on our home page but also is going to be developed more over the next few years with a lot more exclusive information for members only.
  • For those of you who are struggling with the Canadian Professional Mover course, you are going to find navigating through the coursework and the quizzes so much easier and reliable!
  • The French side of the website is being developed with more information available en français than ever before.
  • Here’s a sneak peek of what you will see in early May.

cam6apr82020.pngThe importance of being connected

For many years, the Better Business Bureau has declared May as moving month. CAM reached out to the BBB to renew our relationship and now, in our third year of collaboration, CAM and the BBB have multiple messages that advise consumers of the red flags to watch out for when choosing a moving company and the importance of doing their research and hiring a mover they can trust. May still is moving month as we decided that, even with the pandemic, it was important to remind consumers to start planning their moves now. We even have a message in our media release about the steps our members are taking to keep everyone safe on move day.

If you are connected with us on social media, you have seen our posts throughout the year. Many of you have commented (and tagged yourself) or reposted them to share the messages with your clients.

If you aren’t already liking and following us – you should! Here are a few examples of what you can do to align yourself publicly with CAM – a national body that certified you as a professional mover. We’ve included a couple of really good examples of what you can do with our sharable posts. You can see those here

Nancy strongly recommends that you take advantage of your affiliation with CAM.

Face Coverings

Transport Canada is offering additional guidance for vehicle operators who wear face coverings to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. The Public Health Agency of Canada recently announced that all essential workers crossing the Canada-U.S. border — including truck drivers — must wear a non-medical mask or face covering. Read more here about what’s acceptable and what’s not.

Our COVID-19 section of the website is full of up-to-date information for you, your employees, and your customers.

New Jersey Movers Contracting COVID-19

We heard from our friends at the New Jersey Warehousemen & Movers Association last week. Their mover crews are starting to contract the coronavirus and must be off work, isolated, for a minimum of 14 days until they get the all-clear. A reminder that we are now six weeks into this craziness and people may be getting a little slack on the necessary precautions that MUST be taken to keep you, your crews and your customers safe from exposure. Please take time to review your procedures with your whole team. Stay safe!

What it takes to keep everyone safe

What extraordinary steps are you taking to keep your staff and clients safe? Share your story with CAM!

cam5apr232020.jpgPatricia Lopes from Blue Bins Unlimited sent in this message to explain the extra steps they are taking to keep everyone safe during COVID-19. We thank her for her submission.

During the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), Blue Bins Unlimited Corp Mississauga, Bac Bleu Illimitee Montreal and Blue Bins Unlimited Vancouver, have implemented several changes to service the moving industry while operating within the federal and provincial guidelines for social distancing. In addition to the routine cleaning of our plastic Blue Bins, we have sanitized all our Ontario and Montreal bins for added measures and Vancouver has put in place a five-day separation placement for all returned bins.

We are currently servicing corporate/business deliveries to designated areas on building floors and dropping off bins to garages for household deliveries in an effort to keep our social and physical distance. All plastic bins that are returned by our clients are placed in our secondary truck that is strictly used to deliver bins for sanitization.

We ensure that these measures will help protect our staff and our clients during COVID- 19, and are committed to doing everything we can to protect our team and our clients. Thank you for your business and your trust in our team.

2020 CAM Golf – Sept 14th

Yes, golf is definitely on the minds of many.  With the COVID-19 fun, our golf course has assured us that we can make a last-minute decision about golfing on September 14th, depending on what the future holds for “lock-downs”.  So, for now, we will dream of the greens and keep planning for a great day!  We won’t put out a call for registrations yet but, if you are interested in checking out golf information, you’ll find it on our website under Events.
