GTA rental completions reach 25-year high

With 1,849 new rental units beginning occupancy since January, GTA rental completions have reached a 25-year high according to a new report from leading real estate consulting firm, Urbanation. Since 2005, just 13,520 purpose-built rental units have been brought to market, underscoring the significance of this growth.

Backlog plagues Quebec rental housing regulator

Quebec landlords are awaiting details of promised reforms to the rental housing regulator, la Régie du logement. Andrée Laforest, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, recently confirmed that she will introduce new legislation to replace the previous government’s shelved efforts. In the interim, the 2019-20 budget, released last month, provides more funds to speed up the scheduling of hearings.
