President's Message

CAM07112018a.JPG

I know what I’m doing this winter.  I’m planning on going back to school!

CAM is proud of its Canadian Professional Mover (CPM) course. The course is based on the very successful Moving Consultant Orientation Course that was the standard for Canadian movers in the early 1990s. At one point in time, it was housed through Dalhousie University; however, it now resides on our website and has been updated several times.

Moving professionals who complete the CPM Course will understand the moving consultant's role and the services provided by movers in Canada.

The Canadian Professional Mover Course consists of nine lessons:

  • Estimating Procedures
  • Long Distance Moving – Canada (2 lessons)
  • Long Distance Moving – Canada/USA/Mexico
  • Local Moving
  • Permanent Storage (3 lessons)
  • Office Moving

Each lesson contains the reading material required for the area of study, as well as the assignments that ensure that the material has been learned. This course is free to the students as long as their companies are active CAM members, and they can work on the lessons at their own pace. Students typically take about two months to complete the course although it can be completed in a weekend.

Graduates of the course will receive a certificate and may use CAM’s Canadian Professional Mover designation “CPM” and/or the CPM logo on their business cards. Graduates are also posted on CAM’s website.

We’re now into the slow period at many of your companies.  It might be a great time to have your staff polish off this course.  The CPM designation is just one more thing that the rogues – and your non-CAM member competitors – don’t have.

A CAM member company may register any number of its employees for the course (at NO additional cost).  Each employee must be registered individually for the course in order to receive their own personal user name and password.  Give us a call or check out the education section of our website.

Winter is coming.  Have you GOT your CPM designation yet?

CAM Annual Conference & Trade Show
Sunday-Tuesday, November 18-20, 2018

What are you doing next Monday and Tuesday?  It’s never too late to register for the conference.

Sticking with 2017’s successful 2-day program, this year will highlight up-to-the-minute information to help you understand and prepare for changes that are definitely coming our way.  This conference will answer some questions that may keep you or your staff awake at night:

  • What do we need to do to understand millennials and keep them employed with us?
  • It’s been a month … is our “pot plan” working?
  • What Canadians are moving for work and can we tap that market?
  • How do we successfully promote to our largest moving sector when they rely completely on the Internet?
  • Succession Planning – You’re ready to retire.  Are you confident that the handover to the next generation is going to go smoothly?
  • How are electronic devices affecting US moving companies one year later?  Is Canada ready?

As part of your registration, you are invited to an informal reception on Sunday evening at the Niagara Brewing Company (located adjacent to the hotel) and Monday evening’s reception at the Hard Rock Club (hosted by Ogilvy Insurance).

On Monday, CAM will hold its Annual General Meeting where CAM’s Board and members can influence the future direction of the Association. If you are not able to attend the AGM but have something that you’d like discussed, please let us know and we’ll include it in the open discussion.

Our spacious trade show area will host one of the biggest to date with several new exhibitors with exciting wares and services and our “Research and Development” Section, that will give you a chance to discuss the Canadian moving scene’s future.

There will be some down time available for you to go behind the Falls (just not over them!), take a trip over to Gretzky’s new establishment to sample some local wines and whiskies, or hang out on Clifton Hill and be a kid again.

The conference will close on Tuesday evening at CAM’s very popular Chairman’s Reception and Annual Awards Dinner where we honour distinguished members in the industry.

Come join us!  Here’s the registration page.
