Member Profile: Stephen Ing CSAE BC
Vice President/Team Director ConferenceDirect®
Stephen, share with us your elevator pitch.
ConferenceDirect is a full-service meeting and event planning company that places over 11,000 events each year. We use business volumes to get the best value for our clients from every major hotel group in the hospitality business. If you look at a mortgage broker model, we are very similar in our approach. As a mortgage broker finds the best values through various lending institutions, we source hotels for the best fit and overall value for our client’s meetings. It is our significant volume of business that allows us to pass along pre-negotiated contracts and savings that would otherwise be unavailable to Association and Corporate clients.
What’s the biggest challenge facing your organization and what are you doing about it?
I think in the space we are in; third parties or intermediaries are often misunderstood. I believe education is our best opportunity. Having spent much of my career in hotel sales, I know firsthand the value a good third-party representative can bring to the table when negotiating meeting or conference space. Whenever possible I am working to make presentations and getting face to face with Senior level Executives to explain in detail our role and how we can help.

Employee Experience is More Important Than Customer Experience BUSINESS 2 COMMUNITY
Why do some companies succeed while others flounder when they both have access to the same employee and customer pool, suppliers, and data? Why do coffee lovers make Starbucks a daily destination when 7/11 also has coffee?

Tips to Prepare Yourself for Power Meetings ENTREPRENEUR
To some people the words corporate image enhancement may mean “superficial gloss” and the way the person looks is thought to be of little to no importance. Not so! Acquainting yourself with corporate image management – the way you look, care for and carry yourself, your style, pose and presence – is a part of who you are.

How to Leverage Your Association’s Super-Members SMOOTH THE PATH
The trouble with association boards is they tend to be populated with super-members. Super-members are members who are so engaged, so seasoned, so advanced in the profession or industry they are not like most members. They know everyone and everything.
