President's Message

Picture1.jpg

By this time next week, my head will be so full of information it will likely be as big as the heads on Mount Rushmore. I am attending, what arguably for any President of CAM is the most important meeting of the year – The National Council of Moving Associations. Founded the same year as CAM in 1969, the NCMA provides a forum for close, continuous communication and cooperation among state and affiliated associations (IAM, AMSA, PAIMA and CAM) within the moving and storage industry. The annual NCMA meeting (this year, in Rapid City, South Dakota) offers all participants an unequaled opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest in a roundtable format.

John Levi didn’t try to sway me upon my arrival (he knew it was best for CAM to change things up), but he did say to never miss an NCMA meeting. After attending my first one last year, I now know why.

CAM Code of Ethics for Movers – a reminder

This is just a gentle reminder that CAM’s Board of Directors recently revised the Movers Code of Ethics to include a crucial new element that must be adhered to in order to safeguard the reputation of CAM and its members. CAM members are asked to please follow this direction:

When referring a lead from CAM, use an accredited CAM member for all origin and destination services and, if unable to use an accredited CAM member, advise the customer that their household goods and personal effects are being moved by a company that is not a CAM-accredited member and therefore not subject to CAM’s operating standards and practices.

CAM Golf Day – Going to CERC’s conference?

CAM EN2_03132019.pngPlanning to attend CERC’s National Conference in Niagara Falls from September 15-17? Well why not come in a few days early and join us for a fun day of golf at the Royal Niagara Golf Course?

When your golf day falls on Friday the 13th, how can you not have some fun and add in some superstitions, good luck charms and an homage to Jason Voorhees?

Even if you don’t golf that well, why not grab a few friends and check it out (or come by yourself and we’ll get you on a team)? We’ve thrown away the oven mitts and definitely will have some different activities on the course.

We are holding an Early Bird contest that finishes on July 31st, so make sure you get in on that – win a free foursome for your friends, staff or clients. We’re keeping the fees at the 2017 rate and CAM Member Motel 6 will leave the light on at their Niagara Falls location with a CAM discount available.

More information on our golf day and registering is available here.

And don’t forget - there’s lots of opportunity to be involved if you can’t be there in person … we have some awesome sponsorship opportunities and Nancy will help out with hole activities if you are interested in that.

CFIB Survey for CAM members in Canada

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has approached CAM with a new savings opportunity for our Canadian members. But before we sign on the dotted line, we are doing our due diligence and checking with our membership on viability.

If you received an invitation to take our CFIB survey, we’d very much appreciate it if you would fill it out and send it in. The survey only takes about five minutes to complete – but the information we collect will help us to make a very important decision which will affect your membership. Contact Marian if you need us to send you the survey link again. And a huge thanks to those who have already responded.

Doing anything the third week of November?

camcurcemay2802019.jpgIf you’ve never been to a CAM conference, or you were a lot younger the last time you came to one, please consider joining us in November in Blue Mountain, Ontario. We’re pretty certain you would be glad you came.

Our conference committee has been meeting for six months determining a great location, a wonderful program with important sessions on timely discussions that are needed right now in our industry. We have a well-balanced program so your time is well spent each day. Our suppliers are excited and gathering together to provide you with a large trade show, so you can catch up with your salesperson and say hi, or check out what’s new and exciting in the world of moving supplies and suppliers.

It’s so important to foster relationships and come together as a CAM team. Yes, we may all be competitors, but if you think about it, we’re all in this as a unified group dealing with so many challenges and disruptors in our business. That 5-minute chat you have with someone you’ve never met before, on Sunday or Monday at the social, might provide you with encouragement or support from the most unlikely source.

Take advantage of your membership in CAM and try and attend the meetings. To find out more, click here.

A continued thank you to our conference committee:

  • Jim Carney, Rawlinson Moving & Storage
  • Cam Carswell, Country Wide Moving
  • Milton Letkemen, Jay’s Moving & Storage
  • Phil Murphy, Allied Van Lines Canada
  • David Ogilvy, Ogilvy Insurance
  • Steve Stockill, Victory Packaging

And, as always, thank you to our sponsors. It’s not too late to get in on the action, contact Nancy Irvine or Steve Stockill to find out more.
