Canadian study examines hospital cleaning times
REMI NETWORK

The Canadian Association of Environmental Management (CAEM), along with Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, are now working on phase two of a study, which is examining how much time workers spend when cleaning different types of hospital rooms, and how they compare to Canadian and U.S. health agency benchmarks.

Pest prevention for pools and other amenities
REMI NETWORK

A condominium’s amenities should set it apart from competitors, keeping owners and residents happy and suites occupied — at least, that’s the goal. A property manager should have a plan for keeping the amenities in pristine condition. That plan should include pest management because a building’s amenities are an easy target for pests seeking food and shelter.

Case clears air for more worker safety training
REMI NETWORK

A recent court decision to fine a Toronto-based property maintenance company for failing to protect a crew of workers from exposure to carbon monoxide, one of whom died, reveals that formal health and worker safety training is still lacking in the facilities maintenance industry.

Hand washing and hospitals: There's an app for that
CBC

Bed bugs await Montreal university students
THE STAR

In the basement of a public housing complex on the outskirts of downtown Montreal is a large walk-in freezer used solely to kill bed bugs. The freezer is a local solution to a problem that has been haunting the city for years and is not improving, says Melanie Sanche, head of sanitation for the public housing authority.

Microfiber and ergonomic mops can reduce strain
CLEANLINK

Although there are several factors that affect injuries, building better tools is a solid starting point for improving the statistics. “You can teach the proper technique, but you can’t get away from the weight of the water, mop head and handle unless you make some substantial changes,” says Mitchell.

Distributors can provide janitor training for mops
CLEANLINK

With so many updates hitting the shelves, buyers can feel overwhelmed. Distributors play the important role of educator to help ease customers through the buying process. That starts by simply making customers aware of the ergonomic choices available to them.

Planning green cleaning programs in schools
REMI NETWORK

Canada has been a leader in transitioning from traditional to environmentally-friendly cleaning products. In turn, educational facilities are embracing green cleaning regimes, where such use is essential because children are more vulnerable to environmental exposures from dust and chemicals. Not only are young immune systems underdeveloped, but schools often harbour poor ventilation.

Why should sustainability be embedded into the culture of every business?
EUROPEAN CLEANING JOURNAL

Dr Ilham Kadri, president of the Diversey Care division at Sealed Air, writes her latest blog for ECJ. Here she explains that business leaders must adopt sustainable practices not as a means to raise reputation, but to ensure their business's longevity.
