President's Message

camengnancy-may262020.png

Are your salespeople selling your membership in CAM as a benefit to their potential customers? As a CAM member, your customer is guaranteed that you are a validated, trusted, and professional mover. You've been through a stringent vetting process and have successfully passed through the probationary period. You continue to be a valued member of CAM, as you maintain a high-performance rate and resolve issues promptly and fairly with your clients.

I must admit that, when I was a salesperson, I never touted the benefit of being a CAM member, even though I saw the brochure collecting dust on the sales bookshelf. But in this day and age, with the prevalence of rogue movers, website hijacking, and a summer of scamming like we’ve never seen, your salespeople should be using every advantage they can get. That CAM logo on their email signature, or a line or two about their proud membership in CAM on their quote, could be the selling point they need to make you different from the rest. You need to differentiate yourself from the rogue movers.

As you’ll see below, our new customer-facing website is rocking it! A 52% increase in users over this time last year is not only impressive, but it also signals that our decision to include important consumer information on our website (and promote the heck out of it on social media) was the correct decision last year.

I'd be happy to chat with your team about the different things CAM has at our disposal to provide you with extra resources to woo your customers. I can also help you out with some key phrasing and social media messaging you could use. Touch base with me at nancy@mover.net if you'd like to take me up on the offer.

We are here to support you.

As always, now more than ever, as COVID cases continue to rise throughout the country and to our neighbours to the south, please adhere to safety and health protocols and be safe. Now is not the time to get sloppy.

www.mover.net is a huge success!

The first three months of visitor stats for our newly-redesigned bilingual website are in!  Developed from scratch starting last August, this 14-month project went live in mid-May, just in time for the busy moving season.  Through consultation with the Marketing Committee and the Board, we decided to make the website predominantly consumer-facing.  It was the right decision, and it is paying off for our members, as customers have been checking out www.mover.net in record numbers.

  • Users are up 52% since this time last year.  Most of our users are new users.  As we are only needed by a visitor for a short period of time, they often come to our site, search for a mover and moving information, and then carry on with their move without returning, giving us a new pool of viewers each month.
  • 3/4s of users are going directly to www.mover.net as opposed to searching for Canadian Association of Movers. That, we believe, is due to our social media platforms which provide a direct link to the site.
  • 31% are using mobile devices to access the website.  With more people on the go, we focussed on good formatting for both cell phones and tablets.
  • 704 users came from referrals from other websites – Linking websites included the BBB (225), move search engine movingwaldo.ca (53), several of our members websites including Rockbrune, Miracle, and Campbell Brothers and 14 referrals came from Industry Canada’s website (which was an interesting revelation to us).

Do you have your own consumer information?

CAM has an extensive Planning A Move section chock full of useful information on everything from a personalized moving checklist based on your customers move date, to helpful tips and tricks, to important technical information, all designed to help them understand the more procedural side of their move. We would be happy to co-brand any of these documents with your logo for your exclusive use.

Most of our social media messaging is direct information that comes from the website, with a prompt to viewers to ‘read more’ by clicking on our site.  It’s very gratifying for us to see that, after three years of constant work on all platforms, our hard work is really starting to pay off.

And a reminder – like and follow CAM on our 4 social platforms – Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter. Links to these are at the top of the page.

Every day, CAM posts one broad-based message on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and often Twitter (if the message is short enough). Sharing these messages to your platform and personalizing them to your business is a great way to not only make more people aware of CAM but also provide another connection of your company to Canada’s only trade association representing moving and storage companies.

And why not link our website as an additional resource on your website? Seven hundred people came to CAM via someone else’s website. So thank you to those who have linked us!

Choosing a Mover Is Made Easier

cameng-3a-oct272020.jpg

CAM’s Choosing a Mover pamphlet has been updated and improved and is being widely used by members. Our pamphlet can be handed to your prospective client to help you close your sale. As the bearer of this flyer, it sets you apart from your competition, as well as the rogues, by identifying you as a Certified Canadian Mover who is a trusted, reputable service-provider. The new flyer has a modern look designed after our new website and even has space for you to add your logo or company contact details.  Contact CAM to place an order.

Cross-border truck drivers don’t need to wait 14 days for doctor visits

Today’s Trucking just reported that, according to the College of Physicians of Ontario, essential workers do not need to quarantine for 14 days before an in-person visit with a doctor, even if crossing the Canada-U.S. border in the course of their jobs.  Essential workers like truck drivers are not required to quarantine for 14 days after returning to Canada, even though the rule applies to other people entering the country.
