Early in November, I received an email from the publishers of our print magazine The Canadian Mover informing CAM that our contract with MediaEdge Publishing was being terminated immediately, mainly due to their production costs.
Publishing The Canadian Mover twice a year is a long and expensive process. To provide a quality magazine to our members involves well over 100 hours of work from our administration team who are involved in the researching and writing, graphic and theme development, as well as translation of the content. We know that some of you are ardent cover-to-cover readers of each issue. However, production is demanding within CAM’s current resources, the return for CAM is low, and we’re hearing more and more that paper magazines are a dying breed as readers demand digital media.
The Executive and then the Board of Directors were informed of the development and we discussed the situation at the board meeting on November 17th. A unanimous decision was made to support my suggestion that we focus more on the development and expansion of the newsletter.
One of the things that came out of our recent conference was that attendees wished that their staff could have heard the presentations, as the subject matter was relevant to most of their company’s employees. With that in mind, along with the shelving of our magazine, Mover’s Edge will now be featuring member profiles, educational pieces, sales and customer service tips, and other information that will be of interest to our members, while still ensuring that it is no longer to read than your cup of coffee on a Tuesday morning.
Are you keeping CAM news to yourself? Perhaps, with the growth and relevance of our newsletter, this would be a good time to get more coworkers familiar with this quick read. And for that, we will reward you!
Send us the name and email address of each employee in your office that you would like us to set up to receive Mover’s Edge. We will put your company into a draw to win one of three $50 Tim Horton’s gift cards, so you can supply the coffee for their next newsletter read!
Let’s get everyone informed and support our industry!
