Existing asbestos stockpile raises concerns

Although Canada is finally banning asbestos-containing products for good by 2018, that doesn’t mean a risk won’t linger. After decades of mining and importing asbestos-containing products, various types of buildings still harbour the known carcinogen in their walls, floors, pipes, roofs and electrical insulations. While there is a commitment to control it, the government hasn’t yet clarified issues related to existing stockpiles.
Bill on mercury-containing lamps debated at Senate committee 
The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources recently met to dicuss Bill C-238, which calls for a robust national strategy for the safe and environmentally sound disposal of mercury-containing lamps.
