President's Message

CAM 1.png

We’ve been working on some historical reflections as, not only does CAM celebrate 50 years from the original establishment, The Canadian Mover is in its 20th year of publication. God Bless long-time CAM President John Levi for saving a copy of each issue.

It’s been fun to look back at our history through the magazine – different ads, the photos, the issues. One of the things that is a constant thread, over the 20 years in the magazine, is that the members have expressed how important CAM is for providing networking opportunities. I’m proud that we continue that tradition with two events coming up.

The Annual Golf Tournament is ramping up for just a little over a month from today. We switched things up this year and are heading ‘south’ to Niagara-on-the-Lake to try out the Royal Niagara Golf Course. There’s still room for some more golfers, so if you want to knock around a golf ball for a day, come join us! Good food, good friends, questionable golf.

The other networking opportunity and, without question, the BEST opportunity, is the Annual Conference and Trade Show. This year in the beautiful Georgian Bay resort of Blue Mountain, our conference committee, once again, has put together a cracker-jack agenda, that has an equal mix of education and opportunities to voice your thoughts as we forge through into the next 50 years. The social calendar for the three days is equally important – there are several times to have some fun and catch up with fellow colleagues and meet new friends, with the highlight being our awards banquet on Tuesday night. We sure hope you’ll think about taking advantage of this occasion.

Our committees and staff work very hard on providing you with outstanding events. Please show your support by attending.

This will not be a normal golf tourney...

cameng2a_aug72019.jpgIt wouldn’t be Friday the 13th without a little Jason, black cats, open umbrellas, and a few good luck charms too.

There’s only one month left until the golf tournament. Building on the fun and success of last year’s tournament, in which Perry Thorne’s Greg & Son’s team were crowned champions and took home the trophy, we are once again, going above and beyond just a regular round of golf.

camenglish2b_aug72019.jpgWith the date being Friday the 13th, how can we not throw in some superstitions, lucky charms and hockey masks? Tee-off time is 11 am, so you’ll be able to get home at a reasonable time. Lunch, dinner and draw prizes are all included. If you need clubs, let us know!

So come out and find your inner Jason on the 13th hole at Royal Niagara Golf Course on Friday, September 13th. You can register yourself, you and a partner, three or a foursome. Register here to ensure you make the cut!

And congratulations to Jason Hounsell at MoverOne for winning the Early Bird draw for an additional foursome to join us.

Also - if you’re planning to stay in a hotel, the Niagara Region is in peak tourist season and regional accommodations are expensive. Why not book at the renovated Motel 6 in Niagara Falls (about an 11-minute drive from the golf course) and enjoy your CAM discount and free shuttle to and from golf? Here’s the Motel 6 link. Contact us for our member code.

Do you know someone who’s making a difference in our industry?

Every year, CAM recognizes industry leaders who have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the industry, the association, and their innovative practices.

We want to thank those who have already sent in nominations for the 2019 CAM Awards.  But we don’t want to miss your suggestions!

We are calling for nominations for a variety of awards – from Independent Mover to Distinguished Service, to Industry Achievement.  The list goes on.  Whether it’s a long-time high-profile employee, someone behind the scenes who has dedicated their work-life to the betterment of the industry or a moving company that has gone beyond the call of duty to help their community, we’d love to know about them. Fill out one of the nomination forms and send it in before the end of August.

Let’s celebrate!

CAM Conference – Register now!

cameng6_aug72019.png.jpgTwo weeks ago, we were reminded about the arrival of man to the moon and the remarkable couple of days following with moonwalks and further space exploration.  1969 was an incredible time.

While Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were planting the flag – with significant difficulty – into the lunar surface, a bunch of movers were planting the seeds for an organization for the betterment of the moving industry in Canada.

For approximately half that time since 1969, CAM has been holding an annual conference and providing a first-class networking venue.  We continue to gather to celebrate our industry and participate in the willing exchange of ideas and information.  It’s really one of the best values of your membership.

CAM is all about building business relationships, sharing insights and protecting our industry from rogues.  PLEASE JOIN US on Sunday, November 17, 2019 (6:00 pm) to Tuesday, November 19, 2019 (9:00 pm) at the Westin Trillium House & Village in Blue Mountain, ON!

Register now!
