Five Tips For Creating A Sales-Focused Showroom
SANITATION CANADA

While a great deal of emphasis today is on e-commerce web sites, distributors should not forget the importance of having an attractive retail showroom. “When it comes to cleaning equipment, many cleaning contractors prefer not to purchase online, but (instead like to) touch and feel machines before they select them,” said Leah Waldrop, marketing manager for AFFLINK’s eLev8® process. “Walk-in traffic is likely to remain a big part of your business’ marketing model.” Because of its importance, Waldrop suggests the following five tips for creating an effective sales-focused distributor showroom.

Business Trends and Predictions for Contract Cleaners in 2016
NSA

What can contract cleaners expect in 2016? For the most part and the most reassuring scenario, it looks like the business climate in United States will continue to improve. However, new policies, regulations and changes are anticipated that will likely impact everyone in the professional cleaning industry, according to Tobi Colbert, business development manager for NSA, a leading group purchasing organization for cleaning contractors. Following are seven key trends and predictions she anticipates for 2016.

Why a Franchise Worked for Me
SERVICES MAGAZINE

One of the biggest decisions for individuals with a relentless entrepreneurial itch is deciding what business opportunity to pursue. There are a great deal of industries and sub industries to choose from. For some individuals, after deciding what industry or business venture to pursue, the next decision is whether to start a business from scratch or use a proven system designed for potential franchise owners. With so many options the decision process can be very daunting; and for individuals with little to no experience running a fulltime business, the choice could be a matter of success or failure.

Utilize ATP as Part of Your Marketing Strategy
SERVICES MAGAZINE

Essentially, it was luck that got me started in the professional cleaning industry. By this I mean that some janitorial accounts simply fell into my lap. In my early twenties, I met the manager of a shipping company that was looking for someone to clean its new offices…and hired me. While going to school, I had worked part time at a magazine publishing company. As the magazine grew, it moved into a fairly large office. Instead of continuing my part-time job there, I asked if I could clean the office in the evening. Management agreed, and I had two clients.

Do you know what harmful chemicals are in your cleaners? In Canada, probably not
THE GLOBE AND MAIL

What’s under your kitchen sink? You can never be too sure, considering that Canada’s labelling laws for household products are lax compared to elsewhere, environmental organizations say. Suppose you want to do a mid-winter deep clean. You grab a bottle – “lemon-scented” perhaps, or “mountain breeze” – and flip it over to check the hazard symbols. That’s all you need to know, right? Not according to advocates from Environmental Defence and the David Suzuki Foundation. And not according to the European Union.

Victoria General becomes urgent issue after years of 'smouldering'
CBC NEWS

A cleaning SWAT squad has stormed the buildings that make up the Victoria General Hospital site to try to restore public confidence in their sorry state, but is a good scrubbing what's most urgently needed? Not according to former patients and their families. After decades of only casual attention, and sporadic attempts by successive governments to develop a plan to replace the oldest of the buildings, it's those patients and families, not politicians, who have decided enough is enough.

Expensive hotels have more bacteria: study
EUROPEAN CLEANING JOURNAL

A new study appears to indicate that commonly-touched surfaces in expensive hotels harbour more germs than those in cheaper ones. The study, carried out by online trip calculator Travelmath, tested hotel guest room surfaces for bacteria linked with ailments including skin infections and pneumonia. Researchers swabbed various objects such as the desk, bathroom counter, telephone and remote control in a range of three, four and five-star US hotels.

The toilet you only clean once a year
EUROPEAN CLEANING JOURNAL

An "intelligent" toilet that opens when you approach it and self-cleans with every flush has been on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It also cleans the user with an aerated wand, which delivers warm water and warm air "from a seated position", a spokeswoman said. Despite a $9,800 price tag, more than 40 million earlier versions of the Neorest toilets have been sold. Bathroom firm Toto said the new prototype was still in development.
